    Google e l'accordo con i giornali francesi

Vi riporto l'articolo in lingua inglese perché non è facile trovarlo e in tanti stanno riportando informazioni non proprio corrette

An update on our discussions with publishers in France
Following our communications on October 7th 2020, and as mentioned this morning during the event Medias en Seine, we have made progress on our negotiations with French publishers and associations.

Our discussions with the Alliance de la presse d’information générale are moving forward, and we are aiming to reach a framework agreement by the end of the year. We have already signed some individual agreements that reflect the principles of respect, universality, and transparency of the law, on which we based our discussions with the Alliance de la presse d’information générale.

The first publishers to sign this agreement are daily newspapers and magazines, including Le Monde, Le Figaro, Liberation, L’Express, Courrier International and L'Obs, and we are in discussions with other national and regional daily newspapers and magazines.

This allows Google to pay publishers for their neighboring rights, in line with the French law, based on objective, transparent and non-discriminatory criteria, such as the publisher’s contribution to political and general information, the daily volume of publications, its monthly internet traffic, and the use of their content on our platforms. This is an important milestone in the negotiation process, following the direction of the French Competition Authority (Autorité de la concurrence).

These agreements also include News Showcase, a new licensing program recently launched by Google that will let readers access enriched content, and provide publishers with more meaningful remuneration. News Showcase enables publishers to develop an even closer relationship with their readership, while developing new models of remuneration, and benefiting from increased traffic to their sites.

Our offer builds on Google's long-term engagement to support journalism in France; since 2013, we've invested ~ EUR 85 million in France via the Digital News Initiative Fund, French Publisher Fund and the Google News Initiative in training and innovation programmes.

Louis Dreyfus, CEO of Le Monde group
“We welcome this agreement signed with Google, which covers our neighboring rights and is part of our strategy to accelerate the business model of our Group. This agreement provides additional sources of funding for the development of Le Monde Group, that has been profitable for 4 years, while preserving the strict independence of our editorial staff, which is our main asset."

Marc Feuillée, CEO of Le Figaro group
“The discussions we had with Google allowed us to agree on the remuneration of our neighboring rights, and includes the integration with News Showcase, a new service that will allow us to propose to internet users a richer experience on Google sites”

    Denis Olivennes, CEO of Libération
“Libé is engaged in a decisive digital transformation project. This agreement allows us to license our content (including covering our neighboring rights) and our partnership with Google comes at a key moment to support us in developing our audience and our subscriptions, thanks to services made available to us, in respect to our independence”

Alain Weill, CEO of Altice France and owner of L’Express
“This agreement covering neighboring rights opens a new chapter to our collaboration with Google, and will enable us to propose to internet users a richer experience thanks to News Showcase”

Our $1 billion investment in partnerships with news publishers
"We’ve signed partnerships for News Showcase with nearly 200 leading publications across Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Canada, the U.K. and Australia. The publications include award-winning national titles like Der Spiegel, Stern, Die Zeit, Folha de S.Paulo, Band and Infobae alongside regionally and locally significant publications such as El Litoral, GZH, WAZ and SooToday. The number of news publications will grow as we work to expand News Showcase to other countries including India, Belgium and the Netherlands."
