Wordpress: errore se installato in una subfolder

Ciao a tutti,
ho un dominio in cui nella root principale ho pubblicato un sito web realizzato in PHP con un file .htaccess dedicato, mentre in una sotto directory sto cercando di pubblicare un sito web realizzato con Wordpress.

Quando provo a visualizzarlo ricevo il seguente messaggio di errore:
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, [email][email protected][/email] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

Se commento il file .htaccess presente nella root il messaggio sopra indicato sparisce.
Forse occorre aggiungere una Rule in esso?

avere due siti diversi sullo stesso dominio non è una buona pratica, parlo a livello Seo, usabilità e per gli utenti.

Lo so, quello nella sotto cartella dovrà' sostituire quello presente nella root.
